My name is Aris. Aris is pronounced (heiress) and I'm not sure what the meaning is. Several years ago, when I was asked what my name meant, I replied that Aris was a Greek Sexx Goddess (what can I say I'm a romance writer). Unfortunately, my husband happened to be near, he looked over at me, rolled his eyes, and said very loudly "I wish". I've moved on to another story, which happens to be true. I was born in the seventies to a pair of hippies, real hippies. Having said that, I think I got off lucky with the name Aris. It could have been much worse, Fruit Stand or something like that. So, Aris it is.

'Uggcitrin': The Ugg Boot Vaccine

I’m so stuffed from Thanksgiving. I ate from the moment I woke-up to the moment I went to sleep for 3 days straight. Against my better judgment I hopped on the scale this morning…it lied to me. It always lies to me.  Is it really possible to gain that much weight it three days?

I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving!

This little video made me smile.

This is one of my favorite UGG boots. I love the style.

~Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie Cake~

About 8 years ago my hubby’s grandma made this fabulous recipe for Thanksgiving. We loved it so much—some people in my family, who shall remain nameless, like it even better than pumpkin pie…yes I know how scandalous!
Since then it has become our tradition to make it for Thanksgiving. It’s super easy and fast—my kind of recipe.

Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie Cake
3 eggs beaten
1 can of evaporated milk
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large can pumpkin (NOT pie filling)
1 cup sugar
1 box of dry yellow cake mix (I’ve used the butter yellow a few times and it was yummy)
1 cup of melted butter
Directions
Mix eggs, evaporated milk, pumpkin spice, salt, pumpkin, and sugar until it is well blended. Pour in a 9x13 pan.
Gently so it settles on the top, sprinkle the entire box of cake mix over the mixture. Pour the melted butter (I use a spoon to drizzle the butter—it takes time but it’s worth it) over the cake mix.
Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes.
Serve with whip cream or ice-cream.
Everyone that eats this yummy dessert can never guess what the topping is made of!
Enjoy!

~Breaking Dawn - Part 1~

My humble opinion….
Last night I waited in line with my daughter and her friend so we could watch Breaking Dawn at 12:04 am. The girls were very excited and couldn’t wait to see the movie. Unfortunately it was so not worth it. The movie was horrible.
I must say that I’ve never been much of a Twilight fan—I could take it or leave it however my daughter has loved the books and movies (at least the first 3 movies). When the movie was over and lights went up I looked at my daughter and said, “Well what do you think. Did you like it?” My daughter who was proudly wearing her Team Edward shirt made a sour face and said, “Mom that was Cheesy.” Her friend that was sitting by her agreed. I think her adjective was spot on. The movie was very cheesy. Nothing really happened—basically they got married, had a honeymoon and Bella got pregnant. After 2 hours of that we were ready for something else. There wasn’t much that was exciting or got your pulse racing. The wedding was blah, the honeymoon was slightly okay, and the whole pregnancy thing wore on and on. Not to mention, the graphics were tacky.
The only positive thing I can say about the movie is I think they handled the “love sense” very well—especially considering there are a lot of young girls in the audience.
I seriously doubt we will be watching part 2 opening night. Perhaps at a matinee.

It’s time for this Saga to be over.

~Pemberley Ball 2011~

Our love for Egg Nog has taken a scary turn…and I shall bear the blame because I know I’m responsible for instilling this love in my children…
This morning I woke up to this.
My daughter has used Egg Nog as “milk” in her Cheerios. And apparently around here we don’t eat out of cereal bowls we eat out of grandma’s china cups…you know only the best for our cereal and Egg Nog ;o)

On to something more worthy of your time and attention.

~Plaid Wool Coat~

I have a hankering for a plaid coat this season.  Stop— don’t reread that last sentence…yes, I did say hankering ;o)
I’m not sure I want the traditional red... I think it might be too lumberjacky...

I’ve been leaning toward other colors…what do you think?

~The French Chateau~

I love French Chateaus. I told my hubby this morning that I think we should own one…he just walked out of the office without saying a word ;o)
You may or may not know, we sold our home over the summer so I’ve been house hunting… I would gladly live in any of these…they are just lovely!

~Thank You Veterans~

This morning I woke-up and called everyone I know that is a veteran. I thanked them for their service, keeping us safe, and protecting our freedoms.
Now I’d like to thank all the veterans out there who I don’t know…my family and I deeply appreciate your service. THANK YOU for protecting me, my family, and our country. I also want to thank the families of these service members—your job is just as important.
To all the veterans that will soon be coming home soon—thank you and WELCOME BACK—you’ve been missed.

* If you are a veteran and would like a copy of one (or all) of my books please email me at ariswhittier @ gmail.com and I’ll send you a free copy via Smashwords!

~Egg Nog~

Whoo-Hoo I just found Egg Nog at my local store! I’d been looping around the milk section for over a week—fingers crossed that I would see the elusive display that is mysteriously created only a few weeks out of the year. By the way, who decides when Egg Nog season actually ends and begins? I’d really like to have a word with that person.
Honestly, I have no idea why this is the BEST STUFF EVER. I can't even really describe how it tastes. But I love it because it reminds me of Thanksgiving, Christmas and winter.

About 4 years ago the Egg Nog Gods led me to the most sinful form of Egg Nog—frozen and nicely “sandwiched” between two delicious chocolate biscuits. They are called Fat Boy Egg Nog Ice Cream Sandwich, and if you haven’t tried them you simply must. The Egg Nog in this is so creamy, and, um, nutmeg-y...you’ll just love it.
