My name is Aris. Aris is pronounced (heiress) and I'm not sure what the meaning is. Several years ago, when I was asked what my name meant, I replied that Aris was a Greek Sexx Goddess (what can I say I'm a romance writer). Unfortunately, my husband happened to be near, he looked over at me, rolled his eyes, and said very loudly "I wish". I've moved on to another story, which happens to be true. I was born in the seventies to a pair of hippies, real hippies. Having said that, I think I got off lucky with the name Aris. It could have been much worse, Fruit Stand or something like that. So, Aris it is.

~Karma Never Stops Giving…~

I just love it when good things happen to good people! For me, it confirms that the laws of the universe—what goes around comes around, is true and for some reason that’s comforting.

A 26 year old US Marine experienced the art of Karma first hand. Cpl. Alexander Degenhardt had just learned he’d been accepted as a bone marrow donor to an anonymous patient when three days later he hit a 2.9 million jackpot in Vegas.

He serves our country and on his off time donates bone marrow to a stranger—sounds like a hero to me. I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more.
Way to go Karma…& Cpl. Degenhardt too of course ;o)

~Oscars~

Hi there, hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
I’m not sure what it says about me but I haven’t even heard of most of the movies that won…basically The Help was the only one I really knew. I thought the show was a little borning too. I guess I’m just not cultured enough. Anyway, here are a few of my favorite gowns…
I love this gown because yellow is my least favorite color when it comes to clothes, but this is gorgeous!
Love the way this fit her.

The beading and draping is perfect on this gown.

Love this red...so Hollywood!

Okay, so what was up with Angelina...she looked awkward. I think she was working it just a little too hard.

~Across Eternity~

Wall-To-Wall Books just gave Across Eternity the most amazing review. You simply must head over and read it.

We sold our home last summer and I have been looking for a new one ever since. Well, I found one I have fallen in love with. It’s absolutely amazing. It’s character, history, and elegance is remarkable. Unfortunately it has several offers on it…everyone cross their fingers, eyes, and toes for me.

~Adele~

I think it’s so refreshing when someone is rewarded entirely on their talent. No shocking costumes or make-up. No drama…just a bad-ass voice and incredible writing. I’m wearing this CD out!

I did an auhtor interview over at Why Did You Write That…check it out.

~Be Mine…~

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!
Wishing you a very special Valentine’s Day.
May you love and be loved!
xoxo Aris

Chocolate Strawberry Panini
I’ve personally made this. It’s sooo easy, super fast, and yummy!!
Ingredients
1/4 cup Nutella
12 (1/2 inch) thick slices of pound cake (I bought the 3 pack at Costco & froze the rest)
10 or so frest strawberries thinly sliced
Butter
Directions
Heat a panini grill to medium according to the manufacturer's instructions. Spread a little butter on the outside of the cake (like a grilled cheese sandwich). Then spread the chocolate-hazelnut spread over 1 side of all of the pound cake slices. Arrange the sliced strawberries over 6 cake slices. Cover with the remaining cake slices, chocolate side down.
Grill each cake until the pound cake is crisp and golden and the fillings are warm, about 2 minutes.

~Guilty Pleasures~

I did an interview at Just Following a Dream. Check it out!

Do you have a guilty pleasure? As I began writing this post I realized that I was having a hard time narrowing down my list. Does that mean I have too many?
I love to watch sitcoms…
The King of Queens is hands down my favorite sitcom of all!

I love flower gardens…

I love to eat…

I love to surf the net…

I love hot baths…

~Game Day~

Is everyone ready for hours of football, crazy commercials, and snacking until you want to pop? And by some mysterious law of science I’ll have gained 10lbs by Monday morning. Not this Super Bowl.
I decided on light fare this year…

Kale Chips
(I know they don’t sound that good but give them a try—they are so yummy and addictive)

1 bunch kale
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
A dash of Slap Ya Mama

Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F.
With a knife or kitchen shears carefully remove the leaves from the thick stems and tear into bite size pieces. They srink up so make them big bite size pieces. Wash and thoroughly dry kale. Drizzle kale with olive oil and sprinkle salt, and spices. Coat well and then place in large baking dish or on a cookie sheet.
Bake until the edges brown but are not burnt about 15 minutes. Sometimes I flip them and moved them around.

Cowboy Salsa

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons hot sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons  salad oil [I use olive]
1 clove garlic, minced
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 firm-ripe avocado
1 can black-eyed peas (when I’m out I've used black beans & it’s really good too)
1 can corn kernels
3 scallions (green onion)
2/3 cup thinly sliced green cilantro
4 or 5 Roma tomatoes, coarsely chopped

In a large bowl, mix vinegar, hot sauce, oil, garlic, and pepper. Peel, pit, and cut avocado into 1/2-inch cubes. Add to vinegar mixture and mix gently to coat.
Drain and rinse peas and corn. Add peas, corn, onions, cilantro, and tomatoes to avocado; mix gently to coat. Add salt to taste. Let refrigerate for 30 minutes or longer.

Serve cowboy salsa with tortilla chips or I like to make a huge bed of lettuce and put a healthy helping on top. This is really yummy to make during the summer when you have a lot of the ingredients in the garden.

Spicy Vegetarian Chili

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, diced medium
4 garlic cloves, roughly chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon chipotle chile powder
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 medium zucchini, cut into 1/2-inch dice
3/4 cup (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1 can diced tomatoes with green chiles
1 can diced tomatoes

In a large pot, heat oil over medium-high. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring frequently, until onion is translucent and garlic is soft, about 4 minutes. Add cumin and chile powder, season with salt and pepper, and cook until spices are fragrant, 1 minute. Add zucchini and tomato paste; cook, stirring frequently, until tomato paste is deep brick red, 3 minutes. Stir in black beans, pinto beans, and both cans diced tomatoes. Add 2 cups water and bring mixture to a boil. Reduce to a medium simmer and cook until zucchini is tender and liquid reduces slightly, 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Raw Cookie Dough
(these sound like a lot of work but they really aren't. Everyone LOVES these)

1 3/4 cups ground raw cashews
3/4 cup ground raw oats
 1 tea spoon of cinnamon
Dash of salt
1/4 cup Agave Nectar or Honey (I do a little of each)
2 teaspoon vanilla extract (if the vanilla has alcohol in it use one 1 tea Van and 1 tea water.)
1/4 cup coconut oil

Raw chocolate chips
2 Tablespoon coconut oil
1/2 cup carob powder
1/2 cup cocoa powder
4 T agave nectar or Honey (I do a little of each)
2 teaspoon vanilla (Same as above if it has alcohol in it)

Dough: Grind up raw cashews and raw oats in a food processor or blender (I used a coffee grinder and left mine a little coarse).
Place all cookie dough ingredients into a large bowl and mix by hand or with a spoon. Mix until a dough forms and you can make a large ball. Refrigerate dough while you make the chocolate chips.

Chips: Mix all chocolate chip ingredients together in a medium sized bowl. Roll the dough out onto parchment paper and place in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Optional: Half way through at 15 mins., flip the chocolate sheet over for even freezing. (I found this to be a lot of chips and I used only half so you might be able to cut this in half depending on how much chips you want in the dough)

When chocolate is frozen, cut into chips.  I used a pizza slicer.
Mix chips into dough. Roll into balls & place on wax paper in the freezer for about 15min. Once they are hard and won't stick together put them in a bag and store in freezer.

~Valentine’s Day Gift~

I’m so excited, yesterday my hubbies Valentine’s Day gift arrived. It’s so cute! Sorry for the bad pictures, the flash really washed-out the colors. I packed the picture back up before I realized the pics were that bad. Anyway, I love the two lazy bears and our names carved in the tree.
When we were in college—a million years ago—and didn’t have a dime to our name, my hubby carved me a wooden heart with our names on it for Valentine’s Day. I love that heart so much and it has always set somewhere prominently in our home. As some of you may or may not know we recently moved so it’s packed right now or I show it to you. I’m not much of a carver so I thought this picture is the next best thing!

Nourishing My Inner Martyr… today I will question my confusion.
